@Zomboy_Music is an artist that in recent months has become something of a jar of Dubstep Marmite. He flew to the attention of bass fans a few years back with his highly memorable debut EP for @Wenever_Say_Die and continued to grow his legion of admirers with his brand of distinctive, gnarly Dubstep. However upon dropping his ‘Terror Squad VIP’, Zomboy found himself accused of stealing Skrillex’s ideas, causing the latter to release ‘All is Fair in Love & Brostep’ – a lighthearted parody of situation. He is also about to embark on his extensive US ‘The Outbreak’ tour, which ties in neatly with the release of his LP of the same name.
Yesterday he dropped the first single ‘WTF!?’, switching things up to sample the sounds of Big Room House, which we’ve seen the US go crazy for this year. Unfortunately it also received similar stick, with fans comparing the track to Dirtyloud’s ‘Vampires Come Out’. I’m a fan of the single; it’s cleanly produced, still maintains his trademark energy and allows Zomboy to venture into new sounds. Why should he only ever make ear-splitting, spine-cracking Dubstep? ‘WTF!?’ also features a fiery Cookie Monsta remix for the diehard community, and Cookie joins Zomboy on part of the album tour. I wanted to find out Zomboy’s current top five tracks, and here they are.
1. 3lau & Botnek – Vikings
2. Zomboy – Raptor (SKisM & LAXX Rmx)
3. Slum Village – Fall In Love (Moody Good Rmx)
4. Plastik Funk & Tujamo – Who (Victor Niglio Rmx)
